Grow your Devotional Life
A devotional life is simply the daily habit of praying and reading the Bible—connecting with God. We want to ease any pressure you might feel and remind you that it's not about how much time you spend each day, but about making it a consistent part of your routine.
Finding a rhythm that works for you is key. Your devotional life may look different from others, and that's okay. We're here to help you take this important step and establish a consistent time to spend with God. It's the foundation of your spiritual growth!
Why is it important to grow in our devotional life?
IT ALIGNES OUR HEARTS WITH GOD
When we pray and read the Bible, we are intentionally setting aside time to seek God and grow in our relationship with Him.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” - Jeremiah 29:13
Through prayer, we engage in a personal conversation with God. It’s a moment to bring our concerns before Him and allow space for Him to speak into our lives.
When we read the Bible, we discover the truth about God and our identity in Him. As we immerse ourselves in the scriptures, the Holy Spirit guides us, teaching us how to live according to His ways.
IT BRINGS LIFE TO OUR SPIRIT
Just as we need food and drink to nourish and grow our physical bodies, our spirit also requires sustenance through prayer and reading the Bible. By practicing this, we mature and become more like Jesus.
“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” – Psalm 42:1-2
“…man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” – Deuteronomy 8:3
How can we grow?
When?
This could be in the morning, during your lunch break, in the evening, or at various points throughout the day.
Where?
It could be in your bedroom, outdoors, on the train, or any place where you can focus and connect with God.
To grow in your devotional life, you must find what works for you. Decide on a plan and tell someone you know and trust about it so they can support you in this step. Your plan should include these details:
How long?
You might spend 10 minutes each day or perhaps an hour. The goal isn’t the amount of time but creating a realistic timeframe that you can stick with.
What? Prayer, Bible reading or both?
You might consider using a resource to guide your devotional time, such as a Bible reading plan or a prayer app. These tools can help bring structure and focus if you're unsure of what to read or pray.
